More new dances!

Today my Facebook dancing friends introduced me to a few new dances that are lots of fun to do, and I wanted to share them with you.

The first dance is titled Lover's Night and is danced to the song Love's Gonna Make It Alright by George Strait. Karl-Harry Winson choreographed this 32 count 4 wall improver dance.

The second one shared is a nice waltz by the name of Loving You!, written by Niels Poulsen. Neils' dances goes to Martina Mcbride's song I Can't Stop Loving You and is a 48 count intermediate level dance.

Finally, we have John Robinson's newest creation, Party @ My Place. John's all about fun, and this dance shows it! It's a 32 count 2 wall beginner level dance done to the song 1234 (R.I.O. Video Edit) (by Carlprit). Check the video out and see what you think!

New dances that I'm looking at this week

All You Need Is Me a 64 count 2 wall line dance by Johanna Barnes is first up. The track is All You Need Is Me by Joey + Rory and works well with the dance. It looks like it'll be fun to try out!

Karen Tripp's beginner line dance called Bourbon Street Parade is a great little dance for folks who are just starting out and know one or two other dances like the Electric Slide or Down and Dirty. The music is Steve Tucker's All Star Jazz Band's Bourbon Street Parade. Of course I'm digging it because of the music, but the dance is a cute little dance that your beginners and more experienced dancers should like.

Anna Maria Prach & Paul Dornstedt have put together a soothingly good line dance by the name of Can't Forget You. The song is "Jane" by Bouke, a nice and easy cha cha cha rhythm song. Add to that my friend Juliet and her wonderful dancers demoing and teaching the dance, and well, you gotta try it!

To me, music drives the dance as I feel dancing is like swimming in the rhythms of the song. The song for the next dance is Verona's "Hey Boy" and is a takeoff on the old 20s song Bill Bailey. The dance is also called Hey Boy and is choreographed by Ria Vos. Wow I love the song and the dance is going to be one of the first ones tried when I get to my Monday line dance class!

It's nice to see choreographers writing more dances to swingy type music, at least from my perspective :^) Frank Trace has released Holler Oh Babe which is just such a dance. Lily Wilde and her Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra jam with their rendition of "Hey Babe" for this dance.

That's it for this week's dances. My lack of listing a dances doesn't imply it is not a good dance... everyone has their favorites!

NC Regional Line Dance Workshop Review

Review by Susan Webb. Thanks Susan!

Susan Webb hosted a regional line dance workshop in Stantonsburg on Saturday, February 25 at her place on the farm from 11:00-5:00. We had a fun filled day learning new dances, open dancing many of our favorites, and enjoying the fabulous food everyone brought. We had several new people who had not attended before and were so happy to see them and hope they will continue to come to our regionals. Thanks to all the instructors and participants who came and made it a great workshop. We got good feedback about all the dances our local regional instructors taught. Dances taught were as follows:
    Susan Webb - Instructor
  • La Luna (steps)(video) by Peter and Alison- 64 count, 2 wall intermediate dance with no tags or restarts . Music is Stand by Me (La Luna) by Prince Royce, a great remake of the original song with mixed English and Spanish lyrics. The dance is all straight counts which dances fast and quite well to the music.
    Renita Vega - Instructor
  • Hi-A-Ma Cha (steps)(video) by Rachael McEnaney-48 count, 2 wall intermediate latin dance with one 4 count tag. Music is Hi-A-Ma(Pata Pata)by Milk and Sugar ft. Mirian Makeba & Jungle Brothers. This is a nice cha cha dance which is more on the easy intermediate side.
    BC Beach - Instructor
  • Folla me to da Floor (steps)(video) by Guyton Mundy-32 count, 4 wall intermediate funky dance with one restart. Music is Girls on the Dance Floor by Far East Movement & Stereotypes. This is a good doable mainstream dance by Guyton with no arm movements.
    Brenda Smith - Instructor
  • Had a Bad Day (steps)(video) by Rachael McEnaney-32 count, 2 wall high intermediate dance with 2 restarts. Music is Had A Bad Day by Calle Kristiansson. The rhythm of the dance is NC2 with lots of turns and is quite pretty.
    Bonnie Mathews - Instructor
  • Misty Blue (steps)(video) by Julia Wetzel-32 count 2 wall intermediate dance with one restart. Music is Misty Blue by Monica. The dance has many “a” counts in it but the dance is not too hard and beautifully flowy.

. . . . . .

Links to step sheets and videos are my little contribution to the cause!

'Dancing with the Stars' type competition - Jacksonville NC - 2/25

Feb 25, 2012 at Southwest High School in Jacksonville NC there will be a 'Dancing with the Stars' type competition being held. It's called Swing Your Hips for Scholarships and will be a fundraiser for scholarships for the young people in school. Come out and show your support for the kids.

My partner Erin Hughey-Basso and I will be competing in the event, doing a swing dance number (of course) to Michael Buble's "All I do is Dream of You". Erin is a great dancer and I'm thrilled to have her as my partner in the competition :^)

NC Regional Line Dance Workshop - 2/25

From Susan Webb:

When: Saturday, February 25, 2012
Where: Susan's Place on the farm in Stantonsburg
Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Cost: $5.00

Please join us for a fun-filled day of line dancing with new dances being taught by our local instructors. Please bring your favorite food for us to lunch and snack on during the day. Water and soft drinks will be available for $1.00.

We are starting early and ending a little earlier this time because some of us plan to attend a dance at Bill's Convention Center in Wilson for a dance that evening. The Holiday Band will be playing. The doors open at 7:00 and the band plays from 8:00-12:00. Any of you are also welcome to attend. There are a number of line dancers who go. I believe the cost is $15.00. If our workshop goes on until around 4:30, that will be fine. We just want to be able to have time to freshen up, change clothes and have dinner before the dance.

I look forward to seeing you on the 25th. Email me if you need directions to my place.

Thanks for the info Susan!

New Dances I'm looking at - 2/6

First up is a nice beginner dance called Cry Cry Cry which was choreographed by Francien Sittrop. The dance is done to the song "Cry To Me" by Precious Wilson & Eruption and is not too hard for a dancer at the beginner level.

Next up is Amund Storsveen's I Want You To Stay. This 32 count, 4 wall intermediate level dance has some energy to it and moves around the floor a bit. Try it out!

Derrick Walker's 64 count, 2 wall intermediate dance by the name of Sláinte is pretty good! The music is "Old Hag" by the Coors and has a definite Celtic feel to it, much in the same vein as Cry of the Celts. Celtic music, along with swing music, is one of my favorite genres to listen to.

Finally, I'm liking this new 32 count dance called So Fresh, choreographed by Joey Warren. It has several tags and restarts, but even if you don't care for tags and restarts the dance looks like a lot of fun. Joey rates it as a high intermediate dance. The music works with the dance well.
