Line Dance Marathon information

From Jean Garr:

Hi Line Dancers!

Attached is the 2012 jg Line Dance Marathon flyer. If you could pass out or send to your fellow dancers that would be great. (For some reason every attachment zips!! UGH!). If the Winzip causes a problem, Registration and Information forms will be on the website www.jgpresentsmarathon.com early next week. You’ll also be able to book your hotel room online from the website.

I know this is a bit later than usual and I hope you’re having a great 2012 so far.

With the help of Scott Blevins, and the input of many from the dance community, I’m changing the entire format of the Marathon. This is the beginning of a new era for The Marathon, and I’m very excited, and a little scared. ;-)

Some of the changes are:
  • There will not be any paid workshops.
  • There will be four workshop rooms and all workshops will be included in the weekend pass.
  • The dance previews will be Thursday and Friday evenings.
  • There will be two ballrooms for evening dancing. The Imperial ballroom - (focusing on today’s popular dances and requests) and the Empire ballroom - (focusing on beginner and improver dances taught throughout the weekend and requests)
We’re still going to have a theme for the weekend and encourage people to join in the fun by dressing up for the Saturday evening show and dance, but we’ll be dropping the parade but still have a costume contest.

With your participation, I know we can make sure that the Marathon continues to be a successful and popular event for many years to come.

Look for to seeing many of you again.

Jean

Sam Hollyman, the kid that WOWed Michael Buble

This is video that was taken from another angle (and lasts longer too) of when Michael Buble brought Sam the teen singer up on stage and was wowed by him.

Mixed Up Little Hip Chick

And now for a break from line dancing... this is the video for the song Mixed Up Little Hip Chick by the Kings of Pleasure. I just bought their latest CD and have been jamming to it!

More new dances - Double U Double D and Slipaway Cha

Two more dances worth checking out are Double U Double D and Slipaway Cha.

Double U Double D is a new improver level dance choreographed by Rita Vos. It goes to the song What Would Dolly Do, sung by Kristin Chenoweth. The song has a high energy feel to it, and the dance works well. Give it a try!

Mr. Showcase himself, John Robinson, has released a new dance called Slipaway Cha, done to the song Slip Away off of Scooter Lee's new album (Big Bang Boogie). It's a nice relaxing cha dance that you'll enjoy. The dance is a good one for beginners that have a little dancing under their belts. Btw, Scooter's new album is a good one to get. Scooter's a sweetheart!

New dances to check out

Below are a couple of new dances that have caught my eye.

First up is Sebastiaan Holtland's El Loco Mambo. It's a 32 count beg/int level dance. I really like the song that it's choreographed to (Mambo Loco by Orchestra Bagutti).

And now for the dance Everybody Come & Dance by Irene Tang. Irene's dance has a funky feel to it which goes well with the music.
